Am Donnerstag öffnet die Gamescom-Messe ihre Tore für das Publikum. Profis und solche, die sich dafür halten, dürfen schon einen Tag früher die Kölner Messehallen betreten. Im Gegensatz zur E3 in Las Vegas ist die Gamescom eher eine Publikumsmesse, das heißt, es gibt weniger große Spieleankündigungen als vielmehr greifbare Ergebnisse. Die Aussteller bieten daher viele Anspielstationen, an denen Fans die neuesten Spiele ausprobieren können.

Highlights bei Electronic Arts sind die Shooter Titanfall 2 und Battlefield 1, Ubisoft zeigt das Multiplayer-Schwertkampfspiel For Honor sowie Watch Dogs 2. Publisher 2K Games präsentiert unter anderem Mafia 3 und den sechsten Teil der Civilization-Reihe. Und bei soviel Explosionen darf auch Activison nicht fehlen, die an ihrem Stand zu einer Runde Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare einladen.

Sony setzt dabei voll auf Virtuelle Realität und zeigt einige Spiele für sein eigenes System namens Playstation VR. Konkurrent Microsoft gibt Einblick in Recore und den Indie-Titel Cuphead. Fantasy-Fans freuen sich auf spielbares Material zu Die Zwerge von Nordic Games, das auf den gleichnamigen Romanen von Markus Heitz basiert. Einige wenige Interessierte dürfen sogar das brandneue Zelda-Spiel am Nintendo-Stand testen.
